Leh Ladakh is a unique landscape and every traveller would wish to visit once. It has snow capped mountains, beautiful lakes, palaces, gompas, monasteries and just a general calm where you can even hear the wind whisper in your ear.
Tourists usually seek the terrain of Leh Ladakh as they are avid bikers, enjoy the vast expanse with nobody to see or they simply wish to explore Tibetan culture. No matter why you are going to Ladakh, you need a list of places to visit for all your different goals. Here is a brief list of places and structures that are a must see in Ladakh. Pangong Tso Lake
Yes, this is indeed the lake of the 3 Idiots fame. The beautiful lake with clear water and calm surroundings can be enjoyed well on a day with a picnic basket, a few delicious things to eat and good company. In winters, the lake becomes ice and serves as a hotspot for an ice-skating festival. If you happen to be in Ladakh during the wintertime, definitely join the festivities at the lake.
Khardung-la Pass
Khardung La Pass is the highest motorable road in the world. At 5953m above sea level, it is usually every motorcyclists’ dream. It is 40 km away from Leh and you can also see the ‘Pass Of Lower Castle’, opened for the public in 1988. It is popular road. However, the combination os grime, dirt, snow, and water can make the terrain a bit difficult to work with. If you are on this road, do not forget to take your refreshments at the Army Canteen and get a picture with all the Tibetan Flags in the background.
Tso Moriri lake
The Tso Moriri Lake is an abode of clear blue waters amidst the rugged terrain of lesser travelled Ladakh. The lake is 15000 feet above sea level. Owing to the altitude and a rough landscape it does not see many travellers. Which only makes it all the more attractive if you are seeking solitude and looking to enjoy the melancholy of Ladakh.
Diskit Monastery
If you took a trip to Ladakh it wouldn’t be complete without visiting the Diskit Monastery. It was built in the 14th century Chanzem Tzareb Zangpo. It probably only takes one visit to this monastery to get wiser, such is the aura of this place. It can also give you a brief outtake on Tibetan culture, lifestyle, scriptures, statues and stupas. A visit to Diskit Monastery or rather any of the beautiful monasteries in Ladakh is bound to be an eye-opening experience.
